Issues: Border Security
I am committed to fixing our nation's porous borders and adamantly opposed to granting amnesty to the 15 to 20 million illegal immigrants already in the United States. We live in the strongest; most generous and prosperous nation in the history, however, our current standard of living is unsustainable if we continue to have an "open door" immigration policy.
The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, showed the need to secure our borders. I have and will continue to support legislation that focuses on securing our borders first. As a senior member of the Homeland Security Committee, I fought to put an end to the "catch and release" approach that our government had taken and to complete the 700 mile fence to stop and deter other illegal immigrants.
